Big vs. Huge

One of the advantages of shopping at Costco is that you can buy in bulk (ばら積み) or large sizes, like the cereal on the right. The other one claims to be "Big" at 500 grams, but it looks tiny compared to the other one. The red cereal should call itself "Huge" (巨大)
at 1200 grams. And it's much more cost effective (価格性能), too.

Halloween ABC

Before reading this new "Halloween ABC" book with my adult English impact students, I've been asking them about the alphabet. Specifically, how many letters (文字) are there from A to Z? And what's the middle letter? Do you know without counting? No cheating (カンニングはダメダメだ!🙅‍♂️)! Why read a children's picture book? Because you can learn more and remember more easily, too. 💡 👻 🎃

Oh no! A stink bug!!!

Oh no! I hate this bug (虫)! It's a stink bug (カメムシ). It might look a little like a turtle 🐢, but most people fear it for its stinky (臭い) smell. In fall, it can often be seen around windows where it sneaks into homes. Be careful! (気をつけて!)

Happiness is...

Happiness is... a warm cat on your tummy (お腹) on a cool fall day. Thanks, Tamaちゃん. And the Toyama Marathon is IN two weeks. That's the answer to yesterday's quiz.

"How many feet do you have?" ;)

"How many feet do you have?" joked an English impact student of mine. He was surprised by the number of shoe in front of my house. One reason I haven't had a serious running injury (ケガ) is because I never wear the same pair two times in a row. You see, running in the same shoes again and again is a surefire way (絶対) to injure yourself. So the answer is, "I have two strong feet." By the way, here's a little English quiz for you. Today is Sunday, October 15. The Toyama Marathon is Sunday, October 29. So the marathon is ____ two weeks. A) later B) in C) after. (I'll tell you the answer tomorrow.)

My Punching Trump

Let's face it. It's a stressful world. There are so many things in life to worry about, like work, health and that moronic (バカな) USA President blowing up the world. 💣🌏. Whenever I need to blow off some steam/relieve stress (ストレスを和らげる), I hit the punching bag behind my house. I say, "Don't get angry. Get fit!" Take that, you dotard (不良老年).

Monchiくん - "The KY Kid"

Monchiくん's nickname is "The KY Kid." KY stands for kouki yomenai (空気読めない), which means a person - or cat - can't read a situation well. In other words, he or she is clueless in a social situation. Here's a perfect example: Tamaちゃん was napping on the warm electric carpet when Monchiくん decided it would be fun to playfully attack her. Tamaちゃん was not amused. But "The KY Kid" didn't seem to notice. Or care.
